"Yes" or "No". Seems to be the question on the minds of Turkey observers across the world. With much invective levelled, it has been difficult to get an objective answer. Perhaps the simple question should be,which will bring a better future for Turkey?
The simple answer, the "yes" campaign promises to upgrade a governance system that has furnished Turkey with a coup every decade, a lagging economy, and a dependence on outside support that has only been overcome by an unprecedentedly unified government over the last 14 years.
For the "yes" campaign the time has come to put that stability won over the last decade into the system and not let it depend on a particular party in power. Meanwhile, the "no" campaign is all about keeping things as they are. A strange position given the almost universal consensus that Turkey requires a new system of governance.
