Unfortunately, they could not make it.The Mediterranean Sea swallowed 268 refugees, 60 of whom were children. It was october 11th, 2013. The refugees had already notified the Italian coast guards 5 hours ahead of the disaster, telling them the boat had started sinking. They got an answer they had not been expecting. Authorities told them they were closer to malta than Italy. But in reality, the boat was only 61 miles away from Lampedusa, and 118 miles away from Malta.
