A senior member of the PKK terrorist organization who was being sought with a reward of one million Turkish liras (approximately $280.000) was killed in counter-terror operations in the eastern province of Bingöl, the governorate said Monday.
The terrorist, S.C., code named "Asut Star", who was allegedly responsible for terrorist operations in Diyarbakır province, was wanted under a Turkish green notice and was on the Interior Ministry's Most Wanted list.
The statement by the Bingöl governorate said that the terrorist was killed in an operation conducted in the past days in which 10 other PKK members were killed.
The statement said that the terrorist led numerous attacks in the region, including the killings of a specialist gendarmerie sergeant in 2015 and a village guard in 2017.
More than 1,200 people, including security personnel and civilians, have lost their lives since the PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S., and EU -- resumed its decades-long armed campaign in July 2015.
