West Africa bloc says lifting Niger sanctions
During an emergency summit held in Abuja on Saturday, ECOWAS Commission chief Omar Alieu Touray announced that certain sanctions imposed on Niger following last year's military coup would be lifted. These measures, which included a no-fly zone and border closures, are being removed "with immediate effect" due to humanitarian reasons.

West Africa's regional bloc ECOWAS on Saturday said it was lifting some of the sanctions imposed on Niger after last year's military coup.
A no-fly zone and border closures were among the sanctions being lifted "with immediate effect" on "humanitarian grounds", said ECOWAS Commission chief Omar Alieu Touray following an emergency summit in Abuja.
