US urges Israel not to approve bill banning UN Palestinian refugee agency

The U.S. has made it clear to Israel it is deeply concerned by Israeli legislation that could ban the U.N. aid agency in the Gaza Strip, as it carries out an irreplaceable role in delivering humanitarian assistance in the enclave, State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said on Monday.

The United States on Monday said it was "deeply concerned" about a bill under consideration in Israel's parliament aimed at banning the UN's Palestinian refugee agency.

"We have made quite clear to the government of Israel that we are deeply concerned by this, this proposed legislation," State Department spokesman Matthew Miller told reporters, reiterating the "critical" role the agency plays in distributing humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip.
