Canada will 'have to respond' if US escalates tariffs: govt source
A senior Canadian government official warned that Canada would "have to respond" if US President Donald Trump goes ahead with his plan to double tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum to 50%.

Canada will "have to respond" in kind if US President Donald Trump further hikes tariffs on Canadian imports into the United States, a senior government source told AFP Tuesday.
"As we've shown, we will of course have to respond to tariffs if they proceed," the official said after Trump vowed to double planned 25-percent tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum to 50 percent, effective Wednesday, as well as to "shut down" its auto industry.
