Four students died and dozens were injured in a stampede at a university in Southern India during a musical event, officials said.
Pinarayi Vijayan, chief minister of Kerala state, wrote on X that the state is in shock over the stampede that took place at Cochin University of Science and Technology in the city of Ernakulam.
The incident happened on Saturday evening during a varsity festival when a music concert was about to start.
"Heartfelt condolences go out to the family members of the four students who lost their lives," Vijayan wrote on X on Saturday night, adding that treatment is being provided to the injured.
"A thorough investigation into the incident will commence without delay," he said.
Local English daily The Times of India reported more than 60 students who were injured in the mishap were rushed to the hospital.
