Japan's ruling coalition lost a majority in its worst election since 2009, official results showed Tuesday, leaving the nation facing political uncertainty.

Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba's Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and its junior coalition party won 215 lower house seats in the vote on Sunday, less than the 233 needed for a parliamentary majority.
