Turkish Airlines commenced flights from Istanbul to Moroni, the capital of Comoros Union, according to a company announcement on Monday.

The airline said that Istanbul-Moroni flights will operate thrice a week with a connection to Seychelles flights.

It offers reciprocal flights, between Istanbul Ataturk Airport and Moroni Prince Said Ibrahim International Airport, every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.

"Comoros Union consists of three big islands named the Big Comoros, Anjuan and Moholi," the flag carrier said in a statement.

With Moroni on its list, Turkish Airlines now flies to 304 destinations across 122 countries.

Turkish Airlines, founded in 1933 with a fleet of five aircraft, currently has nearly 330 aircraft, including passenger and cargo planes. Last year it carried 68.6 million passengers with a 79.1 percent seat occupancy rate.

The airline was named Best Airline in Europe by Skytrax for six years in a row between 2011 and 2016, and chosen the Best Airline in Southern Europe for the ninth consecutive time in 2017.
