Elon Musk has rejected a media report about a possible withdrawal of his online platform X - formerly known as Twitter - from the European Union.
This is "utterly false," Musk wrote on X on Thursday, responding to a report by Business Insider that he had considered blocking the service for users in the EU because of EU requirements.
The trigger for a withdrawal would have been the tech billionaire's dissatisfaction with the Digital Services Act (DSA), the website wrote, citing a person familiar with the company. The DSA obliges large online platforms to take consistent and swift action against hate speech, among other things.
X recently received a list of questions from the European Commission, which wants to know more about how the social media platform meets its obligations.
The request followed evidence that calls for violence and misinformation were spreading on X after the attack on Israel by the Palestinian extremist organization Hamas.
