The Barbaros Coastal Defense System, produced by ROKETSAN under the coordination of the Presidency of Defense Industries for the needs of the Ministry of National Defense, will provide Turkey with a critical capability in various fields. Countries with powerful navies and extensive maritime borders, like Turkey, are increasing their efforts in coastal defense systems. Coastal defense systems, equivalent to "shore-based frigates," eliminate the possibility of being targeted by submarines, equipped with anti-ship missiles, radar, and other sensors. In an era of increasing conflicts and durations, the domestically developed "Barbaros Coastal Defense System" holds critical importance.
Experts mention that the Barbaros Coastal Defense System supports combat ships, stating, "Let there be one Barbaros Coastal Defense Missile System each in the Mediterranean and Aegean. Also, have one warship at sea. With coastal defenses on land and a warship at sea, you essentially create a 'death triangle' with each side having a length of 250 kilometers. It's even possible to support this with two warships, creating a 'death rectangle' or a 'death line.' The chances of a hostile element surviving in this area are almost nonexistent."
Experts also anticipate the firing of the Çakır missile, also from ROKETSAN, from the Barbaros Coastal Defense System in the near future, and they indicate that the system is expected to enter the inventory next year. Regarding the potential deployment of Barbaros after entering the inventory, experts express that placing a coastal defense system in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (KKTC) would be a significant gain for Ankara in terms of the Blue Homeland.
