Nepal's government has decided to impose a ban on Chinese video-sharing app TikTok in the country, citing its negative effects on social harmony.
The decision taken in a Monday Cabinet meeting is expected to be enforced following the completion of technical preparations, daily Kathmandu Post reported.
Last week, Nepal also made it mandatory for other social media companies including Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and YouTube to open offices in the country within three months.
Authorities also directed the social media platforms to register with the Information Ministry by the deadline.
The government warned that they can shut down platforms that are not registered in Nepal, according to the report.
