French air traffic controllers' main union SNCTA on Tuesday called for strike action on Sept. 15, which falls in the middle of the rugby World Cup in France.

"As strong inflation continues and is worse than in 2022 ... SNCTA cannot accept that the work of air traffic controllers is devalued year after year," the union said in a statement.

It said that following months of talks with the DGAC civil aviation authority, it was calling for a strike on Sept. 15 and invited other unions to join.

The rugby World Cup runs from Sept. 8 to Oct. 28, with the final in the Stade de France stadium in Saint Denis, Paris.

On Sept. 15, New Zealand is scheduled to play Namibia in Toulouse at 2100 CET.
