European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on Friday there were no rigid timelines for Ukraine to join the European Union, and that there were goals for Kyiv to meet as part of its membership push.

She also told a news conference following a summit in Kyiv with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that the EU's next sanctions package against Russia would target components used in Russian drones used in Ukraine.

"There are no rigid timelines, but there are goals that you have to reach," she said in response to a question about Ukraine's accession drive.
