Turkish film Ayla screened in New York

The screening of Ayla: The Daughter of War, an acclaimed Turkish film, was organized in New York on Friday.

The film, which is based on true story, tells the story of a Turkish sergeant and a five-year-old orphan girl that he found during the Korean War in 1950, was screened at SVA Theatre in New York's artistically-vibrant Chelsea neighborhood.

The program started with a moment of silence for soldiers killed in the war and followed by national anthems of Turkey, Korea and America.

The event was attended by the top authorities from Turkish and South Korean consulate generals in New York, as well as Korean veterans and number of people from Turkey, South Korea and the U.S.

Turkish Consul General in New York Alper Aktaş thanked the organizers of the movie that brought together Turkish and Korean society and reminded of its "deep friendship".

Aktas said that the movie tells the story of one of the thousands of children suffering from war, adding that it shows that there are good people in the world who are doing great things even in the most difficult times.

Hyo-Sung Park, South Korean consul general in New York, said that the film is an inspiring work for the Korean-Turkish friendship.

On behalf of the Korean people, Park also expressed to Turkey and its soldiers, who fought and stood next to the Korean people during difficult times.

The war drama was released on Oct. 27, 2017 in Turkey.

It won the Best Foreign Film and Best of Fest awards on March 2018 at the 24th Sedona International Film Festival held in the U.S.
