At least 14 Iraqi civilians and 10 Daesh terrorists were killed in an airstrike by U.S.-led coalition warplanes in the northern city of Mosul on Monday, according to a local police officer.
The raid targeted a Daesh position where terrorists were preparing bombs and mortar shells in southern Mosul, Major Dreid Khudeir al-Saadouni told Anadolu Agency.
"Ten militants were killed in the strike, which also caused a chain of explosions that killed 14 civilians nearby," he said.
U.S.-led coalition warplanes have been carrying out airstrikes against Daesh positions in Mosul in support of an ongoing Iraqi offensive aimed to retake the northern city from the terrorist group.
Once Iraq's second largest city in terms of population, Mosul was overrun by Daesh -- along with large parts of the country's northern and western regions -- in mid-2014.
