President Erdoğan discusses regional issues, bilateral ties with Kuwaiti emir

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah met in the Kuwaiti capital Tuesday to discuss regional and international developments and resolution of the Gulf crisis.

The meeting between the two leaders was held at Bayan Palace, where Turkey's relations with Gulf countries also came under discussion.

President Erdoğan and his delegation also discussed the Gulf crisis and steps that need to be taken to resolve the crisis through peaceful methods.

Kuwaiti emir noted that the region is going through a critical period and that Erdoğan's visit is significant for the future of the region.

Gulf countries imposed a land, sea and air blockade on Qatar and presented a list of demands to Doha, including the closure of Al Jazeera television network and the Turkish base in Doha. Qatar announced that it would not adhere to the list and that to find common ground, the states imposing the embargo need to give up their hardline policy.

Ankara has been conducting active diplomacy to find common ground for a resolution, with Erdoğan having visited Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait in July. Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani paid his first visit abroad to Turkey following the crisis and met with Erdoğan to discuss the Gulf dispute in September as well.

Both countries also agreed to maintain cooperation, reports said.

The two leaders also witnessed a signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for incentives on direct investment and cooperation protocol on science and technology, following the meeting.

Earlier Tuesday, Erdoğan met Kuwaiti Prime Minister Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah and parliament speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim.
