Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on Thursday received an invitation from Kuwaiti counterpart Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad Jaber al-Sabah to attend an upcoming Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to be held early next month in Kuwait City, Qatar's official QNA news agency has reported.

The invitation to attend the event, scheduled for Dec. 5 and 6, was reportedly delivered to the emir by Kuwaiti Ambassador to Qatar Mohamed al-Ajami.

For the last six months, Kuwait has tried to play a mediating role in an ongoing dispute between Qatar and a four-nation bloc of Arab states led by Saudi Arabia.

In June, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Bahrain abruptly cut diplomatic and commercial ties with Doha, accusing it of supporting terrorist groups in the region.

Qatar, for its part, vociferously denies the allegations, describing the attempts to political and commercially isolate it as a breach of international law.
