Turkish warplanes hit positions of the PKK terrorist group in northern Iraq's Mt. Qandil area, a military source said Thursday.

The airstrikes targeted shelters, ammunition and fuel depots used by the terrorists, the source told Anadolu Agency on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on speaking to the media.

The targets were spotted by surveillance drones, the source added.

Mt. Qandil is home to the PKK terror group's headquarters.

In its more than 30-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU -- has been responsible for the death of some 40,000 people.
