Egypt: Rafah border gate open, Israel not permitting aid to reach Gaza

"The Rafah Border Gate is indeed open, but Israel is obstructing the entry of humanitarian assistance into Gaza. Today, the responsibility for evacuating third-country citizens rests with Egypt. The border gate remains accessible, and Egypt is not accountable for the failure to facilitate evacuations." Ahmed Abu Zeid, the spokesperson of the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Friday.

Ahmed Abu Zeid, the spokesperson of the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has issued a written statement addressing the current status of the Rafah Border Gate and the humanitarian aid destined for Gaza.

Highlighting the ongoing scrutiny by Western media regarding Egypt's role in the Israel-Palestine conflict, Abu Zeid stated: "Western media has been circulating a scenario of deportation, unjustly assigning blame to Egypt for the closure of the border gate. However, it is essential to note that Israel has repeatedly targeted the border gate on the Palestinian side, with four instances of shooting, and has declined to allow aid to pass through."

Abu Zeid further clarified, "The Rafah Border Gate is indeed open, but Israel is obstructing the entry of humanitarian assistance into Gaza. Today, the responsibility for evacuating third-country citizens rests with Egypt. The border gate remains accessible, and Egypt is not accountable for the failure to facilitate evacuations."

Emphasizing the upcoming "Cairo Peace Summit" scheduled for October 21, to be hosted in the Egyptian capital, Abu Zeid expressed optimism that this summit provides an opportunity to chart a more constructive path forward.
