The Hungarian foreign minister has announced that Qatar is helping with efforts to free captives with Hungarian citizenship held by Palestinian group Hamas.
Following a phone call with his Qatari counterpart Soltan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi on Sunday evening, Peter Szijjarto stated on Facebook, "I told my colleague that we know of five people also holding Hungarian citizenship who had been taken hostage and asked for his help in freeing them."
He stated that the names of those held captive by Hamas are given to the Qatari minister, who has promised to provide relevant information as soon as they have it.
"We are grateful to Qatar for its help," Szijjarto said.
At least 10,022 Palestinians, including 4,104 children and 2,641 women, have been killed in the Israeli bombardments in the Gaza Strip. The Israeli death toll is nearly 1,600, according to official figures.
Besides the large number of casualties and massive displacements, basic supplies are running low for Gaza's 2.3 million residents due to the Israeli siege.
Thousands took to the streets in many countries to express support for Palestine, while some of the protests are banned in France.
