In response to the catastrophic situation in Gaza, Denmark on Thursday announced it is more than doubling its humanitarian support to Palestinian civilians by 75 million Danish krone ($10.6 million).
The humanitarian support centers on child protection, delivery of emergency aid and food, and providing medicine, medical equipment, and medical care to the sick and wounded.
In Gaza, more than 10,000 civilians have lost their lives, more than 4,000 of them children, since the beginning of the conflict on Oct. 7.
"The humanitarian situation in Gaza is catastrophic and deteriorating day by day. Not least for the children. Therefore, the government has chosen to support the humanitarian effort with an additional 75 million krone," said Dan Jorgensen, the minister for development cooperation and global climate policy.
"With the new humanitarian contribution, we focus on supporting efforts that can help the many children who are extremely hard hit. In addition, there is still an urgent need for civilians to be assisted with humanitarian relief, access to clean water and treatment of the sick and wounded," he added.
On social media platform X, the Danish Foreign Ministry said that the new humanitarian aid package will be distributed as follows: 30 million krone ($4.2 million) for UNICEF for child protection, access to clean water, and hygiene, 20 million krone ($2.8 million) to the World Food Program for food initiatives and logistics, 9 million krone ($1.28 million) to the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) for the protection of displaced persons, including children, and delivery of basic emergency aid, and 16 million krone ($2.2 million) to the International Committee of the Red Cross for the delivery of medicines, medical equipment, and medical care.
The support package brings the total Danish humanitarian contribution to Palestine since the beginning of the conflict on Oct. 7 to 125 million krone ($17.9 million).
