White House: U.S. would not support major military operations by Israel in Rafah

"Any major military operation in Rafah at this time, under these circumstances, with more than a million - probably more like a million and a half - Palestinians who are seeking refuge and have been seeking refuge in Rafah without due consideration for their safety would be a disaster, and we would not support it," White House spokesperson John Kirby told reporters on Thursday.

The White House said on Thursday it would not support any plans by Israel for major military operations in Rafah and said Secretary of State Antony Blinken had made clear U.S. concerns about such operations.

Israeli forces bombed areas in the southern border city on Thursday where more than half of Gaza's population is sheltering.

"Any major military operation in Rafah at this time, under these circumstances, with more than a million - probably more like a million and a half - Palestinians who are seeking refuge and have been seeking refuge in Rafah without due consideration for their safety would be a disaster, and we would not support it," White House spokesperson John Kirby told reporters.
