Sweden took a big step toward NATO membership on Monday and is set to leave behind two centuries of neutrality, Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said after Hungary's parliament voted in favour of ratifying the Nordic country's application.
"Sweden is leaving 200 years of neutrality and military non-alignment behind. It's a big step and something to take seriously," Kristersson told a news conference.
Sweden applied to join NATO shortly after Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022.
