Gareth Southgate was appointed Wednesday the new England manager by the Football Association on a four-year contract.

Southgate, 46, was previously managing England's U-21 team but was appointed interim manager following the resignation of former manager Sam Allardyce over a bribe scandal in September only 67 days after he took over.

Southgate, a former defender-midfielder of Crystal Palace, Aston Villa and Middlesborough had managed Middlesborough between 2006 and 2009 until the team was relegated from the Premiere League.

Gareth Southgate made 57 appearances for the national team.

England won 2 games and drew twice under Southgate as interim manager.

The new contract is reportedly worth 2 million pounds ($2.49 million).
