Wolfsburg's Gomez out with ankle injury

Germany striker Mario Gomez faces an indefinite time on the sidelines owing to an ankle injury, his Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg said on Sunday.

Wolfsburg said that Gomez damaged ankle ligaments during the previous day's 1-1 draw against Hanover. Further examinations Monday would determine who many weeks he will miss.

"This injury angers me a lot," Gomez said. "I want to and will return as soon as possible. But I also know it takes time to cure such injuries."
