Peru eliminated Uruguay on penalties in Copa America quarters to reach semifinal late Saturday.
After the regular time and the extra time finished goalless at the Arena Fonte Nova stadium in Salvador, the penalty shootout decided the winner.
Luis Suarez missed the first penalty, saved by goalkeeper Pedro Gallese, and neither Uruguay nor Peru missed out on the rest as Peru marched their way to the third semifinal appearance in the last four Copa America tournaments.
Peru won their first penalty shootout victory in the Copa America, they lost to Mexico in 1999 and to Colombia in 2016.
