Liverpool's Champions League title defence begins with defeat to Napoli

Liverpool started their Champions League title defence in the worst possible way by losing 2-0 at Napoli while Barcelona survived a penalty to draw 0-0 at Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday. Dries Mertens converted a penalty in the 82nd and Fernando Llorente struck in stoppage time for Napoli against as the Italians beat their English opponents just as in last year's group stage.

Liverpool began their Champions League title defence with a 2-0 defeat away to Napoli at the Stadio San Paolo on Tuesday.

Dries Mertens scored from the penalty spot with eight minutes remaining after Andy Robertson tripped Jose Callejon inside the box.

Napoli substitute Fernando Llorente added a second in stoppage time to put the result beyond doubt.

In the other Group E game, Salzburg made an impressive start with a 6-2 victory at home to Genk.
