Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the ringleader of Daesh, or ISIS, is one of the biggest enemies of humanity, Islam and Turkey, Foreign Ministry spokesman Hami Aksoy said on Sunday.
"Turkey, as the most active member of the international coalition against Daesh, has been fighting in the front against the terror organization founded by him (Baghdadi) and the mindset it represents," Aksoy said in a written statement.
"Our fight against terrorist organizations, whether it is DAESH or PKK / PYD, will continue uninterrupted," he added.
Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the man who led the Daesh terror organization as it swept up large swaths of Iraq and Syria, was killed in a U.S. night-time raid in northwestern Syria, U.S. President Donald Trump announced Sunday.
Trump thanked Turkey, Russia, Syria and Iraq for their cooperation in the raid, further saying Ankara was "terrific", and noting U.S. forces "flew over" some Turkish territory during the mission.
