Video assistant referee (VAR) is to be used in the Euro 2020 play-offs and in qualification for World Cup 2022 in Qatar, European football's governing body UEFA confirmed on Wednesday, after a meeting in Nyon, Switzerland.
Football's world governing body FIFA must now rubber-stamp the decision.
The technology is already in use in Europe in the Champions League, as well as in several domestic leagues, and is to be used in the Euro 2020 finals next summer.
