Turkish security forces neutralize 50 terrorists

Security forces neutralized 50 terrorists in counter-terrorism operations across Turkey this week, the interior ministry said Monday.

In a statement released the ministry said that 30 terrorists were killed, 14 surrendered, and six others were captured.

More than 4,000 arrests were made in 1,128 operations between July 10-17.

They include 168 suspects for aiding PKK, 298 for ties to Daesh, 895 for links to Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO), and five others who had joined leftist terrorist organizations, the statement added.

FETO and its U.S.-based leader Fetullah Gulen orchestrated the defeated coup of July 15, 2016, which left 250 people martyred and some 2,200 injured.

The PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU -- resumed its armed campaign against Turkey in July 2015.

Since then, it has been responsible for the deaths of some 1,200 Turkish security personnel and civilians, including a number of women and children.

In Turkey's southeastern province of Diyarbakir, security forces destroyed 12 shelters used by terrorists, and 27 mines and explosives.

They also seized 1.5 tons of explosive materials and heavy ammunition.

In 608 operations against drugs in 74 provinces, the forces seized narcotics, and smuggled tobacco and fuel. At least 2,601 suspects were arrested.

In a crackdown on illegal migration, at least 3,352 suspects were arrested, including 54 who allegedly aided the process.

As part of cyber security operations, 49 suspects were arrested.
