At least 4 Daesh-linked suspects detained in Turkey's Mardin

Turkish police detained at least four suspected Daesh terrorists in counter-terror operations targeting the group's sleeper cells in southeastern Mardin province in cooperation with the National Intelligence Organization (MİT), reports said Tuesday.

Counter-terror squads reportedly raided two houses located in Mardin's Artuklu and Mazıdağı districts, which were used by Daesh terrorists.

In a written statement, Mardin Police said that they have detained the terrorists after extensive investigation and cooperation with MİT.

Two of the suspects detained in the operation had fought with Daesh terrorists in Syria, the police added.

Police have confiscated documents and material found during the raids, and will continue to target the terrorist group, statement added.

Daesh became one of the most active terrorist groups in Turkey over a span of just two years. It has been blamed for a string of attacks in Turkey, ranging from suicide bombings to gun attacks.

Since Daesh emerged as a terrorist group in war-torn Syria, Turkey has detained over 5,000 Daesh suspects and deported over 3,290 foreign terrorist fighters, originating from 95 different countries. It also refused entry to more than 38,269 individuals.
