Over 200 undocumented migrants held in Turkey

Turkish security forces on Thursday held a total of 207 undocumented migrants in Black Sea and northwestern provinces, according to security officials.

In the Black Sea province of Amasya, gendarmerie forces held 139 migrants from a bus which was stopped close to the Merzifon district, a security official, who asked not to be named due to restrictions on talking to the media, told Anadolu Agency.

The migrants, including Afghan and Pakistani nationals, were headed to Istanbul from the eastern Agri province, the source added.

The bus driver was arrested on human trafficking charges.

In the northwestern Edirne province, gendarmerie forces held 38 migrants as they were trying to illegally enter Europe, another security official said.

The migrants, including Syrian and Pakistani nationals, were found in a minivan near the village of Uyuklutatar, Edirne.

The minivan driver was also arrested on human trafficking charges.

Another 30 migrants, including Afghan and Pakistani nationals, were also held in the northwestern Kirklareli province, another security official said.

The gendarmerie forces held the migrants while they were trying to illegally enter Europe in Kirklareli's Demirkoy and Kofcaz districts.
