Turkey, Pakistan discuss UN-related issues in Ankara

The third round of Turkey-Pakistan consultations on the UN related matters were held in the Turkish capital Ankara on Wednesday.

According to a press release issued by Pakistan's Embassy in Ankara, the two sides discussed issues ranging from the UN Security Council reforms to human rights and humanitarian issues, from refugees to counter-terrorism, combating Islamophobia and religious discrimination, and transnational organized crimes and migration issues.

The Turkish delegation was led by Deputy Undersecretary for Political Affairs Ambassador Kaan Esener, while the Pakistan side was led by Special Secretary Tasmin Aslam, the press release said.

"The two sides expressed complete satisfaction at the existing close cooperation between Pakistan and Turkey at the multi-lateral forums, as well as unanimity of views on issues of regional and international importance," it added.

The two sides also agreed to expand the scope of the bilateral consultations to new areas.

The visiting delegation also called on Turkey's Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Ümit Yalçın and exchanged views on issues of bilateral and regional importance.

Pakistan-Turkey consultations on UN related matters are part of the wider relationship between the two countries. The first round of these consultations was held at Ankara in September, 2015, and the second in Islamabad in January, 2017.

The next round will be held in Islamabad.
