A Sudanese youth, who came to Turkey to pursue his master and doctorate in Turkish language and literature, is now surprising Turks by teaching Turkish language courses at Sağlık Bilimleri University in Istanbul.

Speaking to Anadolu Agency, Younis Yahya, 28, said he was very ambitious to learn Turkish language after he met Turkish students in Sudan. He is now preparing his doctoral dissertation -- titled "the Turkish language and Turkish of Turkey".

Since Turkish is also spoken outside Turkey, Yahya said his research will only focus on the Turkish language being spoken only in Turkey.

He is also certified by the Ankara-based Yunus Emre institute to teach Turkish language to foreigners.

After being certified, he joined Sağlık Bilimleri University to teach Turkish as a foreign language, but the university has not yet opened the program of teaching Turkish as a foreign language.

Despite his certificate limitation to teach Turkish language to locals, the university deputy rector insisted to give him the course.

"I said no! but the deputy rector insisted […] so I started and I am now teaching the Turkish language to Turks."
