Seventy of 100 active-duty soldiers being sought over alleged links to FETO, the terror group behind July 2016 defeated coup, have been arrested, security sources said Monday.
They were caught in simultaneous anti-terror operations in 41 provinces including the capital Ankara, added the sources, who asked not to be named due to restrictions on speaking to the media.
Warrants for the 100 were issued for personnel of the Turkish Land Forces Command, according to Ankara prosecutors.
The suspects are accused of periodically and sequentially communicating with FETO members via pay phone.
The Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO) and its U.S.-based leader Fetullah Gulen orchestrated the defeated coup of July 15, 2016, which left 251 people martyred and nearly 2,200 injured.
Ankara also accuses FETO of being behind a long-running campaign to overthrow the state through the infiltration of Turkish institutions, particularly the military, police, and judiciary.
