Netflix applied Tuesday for a license to continue broadcasting in Turkey under new online broadcasting rules.
The online content providers should get a new license to continue broadcasting in the country and comply with Turkey's Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) guidelines according to the new regulation.
"Netflix has already started the process of acquiring the license," the company said in a statement.
"We have 1.5 million subscribers in Turkey and the number keeps increasing. We continue to increase our investments in Turkey, while also discussing with officials ways to improve our parental controls," it added.
"More than 600 institutions, including local streaming platforms Puhu TV and Blu TV, had also applied for licenses," tweeted head of RTÜK Ebubekir Şahin.
