Turkish police detained 19 terror suspects including two
HDP deputy mayors in the northeastern province of
Kars as part of a terrorism-related operation, Turkey's state-run news agency reported on Thursday.
Among the arrested were local officials and members of
Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP)-a party Turkey has said is linked to the terrorist
PKK, including deputy mayors
Sevin Alaca and
Muazzez Çağrıtekinci, as well as
Cengiz Anlı, HDP's provincial head.
The police
detained suspects as they were determined to have aided and abetted the bloody-minded
PKK terrorists by attended the
meetings and operating under their
orders, the official sources told reporters.
The suspects are also accused of spreading
PKK propaganda via some websites related to the
terror group, and distributing money collected by
KCDK-E, PKK's organization in
Europe, to the people in contact with the PKK.
Last week, the
HDP mayor of Kars along with dozens others were detained over
deadly protests in 2014.
The opposition HDP has been accused of having links to the PKK terror group.
Since March 2019 local elections, some of HDP mayors have been replaced by trustees because of aiding and abetting the PKK terrorists. The loved and respected governors and local authorities have been appointed as trustees in those districts.
The former co-leaders of the HDP have both been jailed since 2016 on terrorism charges, with several other prominent party members accused of supporting terrorism.
