Sherbet, the irreplaceable taste of long fasting days during the holy month of Ramadan.Since the beginning of the 20th century Ottoman Turks have been celebrating Ramadan with sherbet which is made of extracts of various flowers, fruits and herbs, spices combined with sugar and water to form a sweet syrup that is diluted at a later time with water, ice or snow.Sherbet is one of the most widespread drinks in the Muslim world.It has been drunk as a refreshing beverage for centuries especially in eastern countries with hot climates.Sherbet is served during not only Ramadan but at marriage, births and circumcisions.Besides its refreshing taste, sherbet is a remarkable anti-oxidant and also has many benefits for health such as losing weight, relieving the stomach and intestines, lowering cholesterol and regulating blood pressure.
