At least 106 civilians, including 42 children, have been killed in a series of airstrikes by a US-led coalition on a Daesh-held town in eastern Syria, a monitoring group reported on Friday.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the strikes targeted the town of al-Mayadeen on the eastern outskirts of in the province of Deir al-Zour.
"There were two rounds of strikes: one at Thursday night and the second after midnight, targeting buildings housing families of Daesh fighters," the observatory's head, Rami Abdel-Rahman, told dpa
He added that most of those killed were Moroccan and Syrian nationals who had fled to al-Mayadeen from the de-facto capital of Daesh in al-Raqqa in north-eastern Syria. Initially, the observatory said at least 35 civilians had been killed in the strikes.
