Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Tehran on Wednesday to attend a trilateral summit with the leaders of Iran and Azerbaijan.
Putin is scheduled to meet his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani before holding an extended meeting that would include the delegations of the two countries, according to Russia's Sputnik news agency.
The 7-year conflict in Syria, Iran's nuclear program and bilateral economic cooperation between Moscow and Tehran will top Putin's talks in Iran.
A trilateral meeting between Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Russian and Iranian leaders is also expected to be held later today, followed by bilateral talks between Putin and Aliyev.
Russia, Iran and Azerbaijan are key producers in international oil and gas markets as they share the continental shelf of the oil-rich Caspian Sea.
