One civilian was killed and seven others were injured Tuesday when the PYD/PKK terrorist group shelled a refugee camp in Idlib province in northwestern Syria.
PYD/PKK terrorists fired a mortar shell from Jindaras area in northwestern Afrin into the Atma refugee camp in Idlib, according to the Anadolu Agency correspondent in Atma village.
He said one woman was killed and seven people, including women and children, were injured in the attack.
The injured have been transferred to field hospitals in the area, according to the correspondent.
The attack has triggered a state of panic and fear among refugees in the camp.
Located near Turkish border, Atma refugee camp is home to thousands of civilians who were forced from their homes over the 7-year conflict in Syria.
The refugees in the Atma camp come mainly from Homs, Aleppo, Damascus, Idlib, Deir-el Zour and Al-Hasakah.
PYD/PKK has been sporadically targeting the Atma camp and its surroundings.
Meanwhile, Turkey is continuing Operation Olive Branch, launched Jan. 20 to remove the PKK/PYD/YPG/KCK and Daesh terrorists from the Afrin region.
According to the Turkish General Staff, the operation aims to establish security and stability along Turkish borders and in the region as well as to protect Syrian people from the oppression and cruelty of terrorists.
The operation is being carried out under the framework of Turkey's rights within international law, U.N. Security Council resolutions, its right to self-defense under the U.N. charter and respect for Syria's territorial integrity, it said.
The military also said, "utmost importance" is being placed on not harming any civilians.
