Turkish journalists gave President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan a birthday cake on Monday, at the close of a televized press conference before the leader headed off to Africa on a four-nation tour.
Erdoğan, who has been at the helm of Turkey since 2003, turned 64 years old.
Asked by a journalist how he felt, Erdoğan quickly responded: "What is your impression?" The journalist then replied: "Really young and healthy."
Erdoğan cut and ate a piece of the small, round cake at the event, at Istanbul's main Ataturk airport, which was broadcast on national television channels.
During his five-day visit to Africa, Erdoğan will visit Algeria, Mauritania, Senegal and Mali. In December, the Turkish president was in Sudan, Chad and Tunisia.
