At least one Palestinian was martyred -- and a second injured -- when the Israeli military shelled a Hamas-run checkpoint in the northern Gaza Strip on Monday, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.
"Mohamed Ahmed al-Radei, 25, was killed, while a second person was moderately injured by Israeli shelling near the Gaza Strip's northern border," ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qidra said in a statement.
Israeli artillery reportedly targeted a checkpoint run by Hamas's armed wing, the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades, located east of northern Gaza's town of Beit Lahia.
The Israeli army has yet to issue a statement on the reported artillery attack.
