Air traffic at Hamburg airport, Germany's fifth busiest, ground to a halt Sunday due to a power outage caused by a short circuit, a spokeswoman said.
"We are working at high speed to fix the problem," the airport spokeswoman said in a statement.
The dpa news agency quoted Hamburg Airport spokeswoman Stefanie Harder saying everyone was asked to leave the airport terminal Sunday as technicians tried to fix the problem.
Harder says she doesn't know why such a large area of the airport was affected by the power outage, thought to be the result of an electrical short.
Travellers were told to consult their airline before heading to the airport, whose two terminals were evacuated during the blackout which began at about 0800 GMT.
Hamburg airport has 200 incoming and outbound flights on an average Sunday and serves more than 17 million passengers each year.
