U.S. President Donald Trump's disapproval rating hit a high of 60 percent, according to a new poll released Friday by the Washington Post newspaper and ABC News.
The survey found not only high disapproval but nearly half of Americans, 49 percent, believe Congress should begin impeachment proceedings against the president.
Other parts of the poll showed the country's discontent with the Trump's affairs, with 63 percent saying they support the investigation of him and his associates by Special Counsel Robert Mueller, and 67 percent find it was justified for Trump's former campaign manager to be found guilty of fraud charges last week.
Fifty-three percent believe Trump tried to interfere in the Mueller investigation in a way that amounts to obstruction of justice.
While the poll did show an overwhelming majority of Republicans, 78 percent, support Trump's actions, 93 percent of Democrats and 59 percent of Independents do not approve of his performance.
The poll by the Washington Post is not the only one to show high disapproval ratings for the president. Gallup's weekly poll shows Trump's disapproval rating at 54 percent as of Sunday.
The new numbers come at a critical time as midterm elections campaigning has begun to step up, which will decide whether the Republican-controlled Congress will lose its hold on power to the Democrats.
The poll was conducted over a four-day period from Aug. 26 to Aug. 29 and used a national random sample of 1,003 registered voters in the U.S.
