At least 13 PKK suspects were arrested in southeastern Turkey while plotting terrorist attacks on the Turkish police, gendarmerie, and other critical targets, provincial officials said on Friday.

In a statement, the Şanlıurfa Governor's Office said that among the suspects' targets was Ibrahim Halil Yıldız, a lawmaker from the ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party.

On June 14, four people died and eight were injured at an election rally in Suruç, Şanlıurfa when Yıldız and other AK Party members were attacked.

Although Yıldız survived the attack, his older brother Mehmet Ali Yıldız died.

In its more than 30-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU -- has been responsible for the deaths of some 40,000 people, including women and children.
