The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) on Monday nominated incumbent Prime Minister Nachirvan Barzani to become president of the semi-autonomous Kurdish region in northern Iraq.
Masrour Barzani, head of the Kurdish Regional Government (KRG)'s Security Council, was also nominated to be a prime minister, party spokesman Mahmoud Mohammed told a press conference in Erbil.
Led by former KRG president Masoud Barzani, KDP came first with 45 seats in the Kurdish region's parliamentary election held on September 30.
