The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Joseph Dunford, had a telephone call Thursday with his Turkish counterpart, Gen. Yaşar Güler.
"The two leaders continued their discussion on the security situation in Syria and the importance of continued U.S.-Turkish cooperation on counterterrorism efforts to ensure the lasting defeat of ISIS," Pentagon spokesman Col. Patrick S. Ryder said in a statement, using another name for the Daesh terrorist group.
"Gen. Dunford further reiterated the U.S. commitment to Turkey's security," he added.
Ryder said the two NATO allies "enjoy a strong and continuous military-to-military relationship."
