Donald Trump Jr will be interviewed by US senators in mid June as part of the Intelligence Committee's investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election won by his father, local media report.
The interview is part of a deal reached by both sides, the New York Times reported on Tuesday, citing people familiar with the discussions.
The president's son will be questioned behind closed doors for no longer than four hours and he will only be asked about a limited number of topics, according to the reports.
It emerged last week that the Senate Intelligence Committee had issued a subpoena to Trump Jr to testify again before it.
An earlier testimony by Trump Jr covered his participation in a June 2016 meeting at Trump Tower with Russians who offered "dirt" on Democrat Hillary Clinton, Trump's opponent.
The Republican-controlled committee could still be interested in his account of that meeting, as well as his father's efforts to build a skyscraper in Moscow.
According to the New York Times, Trump Jr's lawyer was prepared to send a letter in protest against his client being interviewed by the panel, which, he argued, would involve multiple Democratic presidential candidates for the next elections in 2020.
Special counsel Robert Mueller spent almost two years investigating whether US President Donald Trump's campaign team colluded with the Russians ahead of the 2016 election. He concluded that there was no collusion but left the question open on whether Trump was guilty of obstruction of justice.
The investigation has been at the centre of major political battles between Republicans and opposition Democrats.
